Advanced Power Processing Techniques for DC to DC Converters.

Abstract

The study leading to a new type dc to dc converter with experimentally substantiated promise for appreciably lighter weight, such as one half or less, improved reliability and unimpaired efficiency in excess of 90% is presented. The functional principle is based on the transfer of power through controlled nonlinear resonant circuits. The resonant currents secure low turn off stresses, unlike the severe conditions of forced current interruption found in state of the art equipment. The maximum current and voltage stress levels of the transistors are unconditionally contained for all static and dynamic conditions of operation. Improved reliability is expected from the described lower stress levels. (Author)
