Chain Sampling

Abstract

This Technical Report contains a general discussion on acceptance sampling wherein data from previous lots are used as a part of the criteria to determine acceptability of the current lot under consideration. The group of lots from which data are utilized is termed a chain of lots (each lot being a link in the chain), and the total process is termed chain sampling. The process of chain sampling is described, the theory development, applications described, and its utility compared to single sampling. In addition, the report presents a somewhat unique method of computerizing the computation of operating characteristic curves for chain sampling plans and offers a limited number of plans for sample sizes 5, 10, 15, and 20 for possible application by its recipients.
