Abstract

DAFSC 55350 job incumbents perform a variety of tasks, 66% of which come from Duty G (Drawing Engineering Plans and Maps); Duty F (Performing General Surveys); and Duty H (Performing Reproductions Tasks). Seven-skill level personnel perform many of the same technical tasks but also are involved to a lesser extent with supervisory tasks. For 9-skill level incumbents supervisory tasks and performing construction Management and Network Analysis Duties (Duty K) tasks account for 64% of job time. As progression occurs across enlistment groups, the amount of supervision increases as does participation in Duty I (Developing Cost Estimates), Duty K (Performing Construction Management and Network Analysis Duties), and Duty L (Performing Programming Duties). The AFS 553X0 career field is divided into three clusters: (1) Drafting, Survey, and Reproduction Specialists; (2) Construction Inspectors and Administrative Technicians; and (3) Superintendents. Within these clusters, 15 job types were found. Section 7 (Construction Materials Testing) should be evaluated for possible reductions in proficiency requirements as should Section 12 (Network Analysis).
