Design of an Optimal Linear Regulator to Satisfy Conventional Figures of Merit by Utilizing Q = hh' and the Defined Dynamic Equation Approach.
Abstract
Experimental data is gathered to verify Mirmak's statement that k approximately equal h under high forward gain. A formula for the minimum forward gain needed to achieve this approximation to within a specified accuracy factor is then derived. Based upon the linear, infinite-time regulator system, the Defined Dynamic Equation approach is used to derive a relationship between the h vector and the figures of merit of the resulting transient response. The hoped for simplicity of using the coefficients of the Reduced Defined Dynamic Equation as the first elements of the h vector is found to be allowable only when the remaining elements are chosen to be zeros. The undesirable result of such a choice is then described.
