MODULAB Design. Conceptual Design of an Integrated Modular Clinical Laboratory for Shipboard Use.

Abstract

The conceptual design of an integrated modular clinical laboratory--MODULAB--was initiated to determine whether or not the state-of-the-art in instrumentation and methodologies would support an appropriate shipboard capability. Two requirements were considered--care of combat/accidental injuries, and routine health care. The measurements required were defined by military and civilian physicians. Commercially available and special-purpose instruments to satisfy the requirements were surveyed. The basic MODULAB comprises a measurement and a support rack. Capacity can be decreased by the deletion of modules and increased by the addition of modules or racks.
