Storage Reliability of Missile Materiel Program: Gyroscope Analysis.

Abstract

The report documents findings on the non-operating reliability of gyroscopes. Based on 825 million part-hours, the storage failure rate for rate gyroscopes in 348 fit (failures per billion hours) with one sided 90 percent confidence limit at 412 fit. Catastrophic failures are 55 percent of the total, spares usage is 3 times the failure rate. Elements of gyroscope construction are reviewed and important factors for gyroscope storage reliability are identified. The objective of this program is the development of non-operating (storage) reliability prediction and assurance techniques for missile materiel.
