Geometric Distortions in a Coherent Optical Processor.

Abstract

This report is concerned with the theory of implementing geometric distortions using a single planar element in a coherent optical system. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a distortion to be realizable are developed, and the optical transfer function appropriate to any realizable distortion is given in terms of the distortion functions. Bandlimiting phenomena are inherent to this technique, and a technique for estimating this bandlimiting is discussed. The application of geometric distortions to the synthesis of space-variant integral transform is also discussed. (Author)
