A Self-Adapting Target State Estimator

Abstract

Determining a target aircraft's position, velocity, and acceleration from measurement of its position is a major problem in modern antiaircraft gun, laser, and missile fire control. Many versions of the optimal or Kalman state estimator have been used with varying degrees of success. This paper offers a new technique which allows detailed aircraft flight dynamics and constraints to be incorporated into the general Kalman structure.
