Vehicle Washing Operations and Wastewater Discharge, Fort Drum, NY - Findings and Recommendations.
Abstract
Army vehicle washing operations, washing facilities, and the wastewater discharges resulting from these activities were surveyed at Fort Drum, NY. On the basis of survey data and information supplied by post personnel, a concept design and cost estimates were prepared for a new consolidated washrack facility to replace existing on-post facilities. The recommended design incorporates hand-held, high-pressure/low-volume wash hoses for tracked vehicles and fixed-nozzle drive-through facilities for wheeled tactical equipment. The centralized wastewater treatment system proposed for the facility consists of a sedimentation basin equipped for mechanical free oil removal followed by filtration through a polishing filter.
