Precision Alignment Procedure for Troposcatter Systems.

Abstract

This report contains a detailed investigation of a new approach to accomplishing alignment of troposcatter communications antennas along the great circle path. The new approach is based upon examination of the received CW signals doppler spectrum shape and its relation to antenna pointing angle. The doppler spectrum shape was examined through forming the cross-correlation function of the quadrature components of the received signal. Available experimental evidence suggests an alignment accuracy of + or - 1/8 deg. in less than one hour is attainable. (Author)
