A Brief Review of the Chemistry of Crown Ethers,

Abstract

A brief review of the origin and of the remarkable complexing properties of the crown ethers is presented. Some areas of chemistry in which these compounds are currently important are described with emphasis on their application to the catalysis of nucleophilic and oxidative organic reactions and their behaviour as highly selective complexing agents in host-guest interactions. Methods of synthesis and characterization for these compounds are summarized. (Author)
