Scope of the Operational Service Test Training Package.

Abstract

The Army's Operational Service Test (OST) for newly developed military weapons and equipment is programmed into the development cylce to provide a basis for field evaluation of the military worth of the total system design. To insure an adequate test of the training subsystem capability, new concepts are being incorporated in Army Regulations to define the importance of critical data and instructional material that are prerequisite to an effective test of training capability. This report provides guidance on the scope of specific items to be concluded in the training package. It concludes that current Army publications do not fully explore the interdependence of the various items and the relationship of each to the concept of the intergrated training package. Continuing research efforts are expected to result in effective guidelines for the development of a cost-effective training package. (Author)
