An ALternative Approach to Achieve NATO Standardization.

Abstract

The report examines the existing NATO materiel acquisition process, the various organizational elements with responsibilities for materiel acquisition and standardization, and the problem areas that appear to exist. An alternative organizational approach has been developed using, where possible, the existing elements but expanding and delineating responsibilities and modifying organizational frameworks to accomplish the task of equipment standardization in a more effective manner. The study illustrates the proposed concept by applying them to an impending decision for a new NATO field artillery system. Due to the limited scope of the study effort, many important areas have been merely identified for subsequent in-depth analysis. (Author)
