New Technology of Drilling Wells in Permafrost. Chapter 6: Drilling with Simultaneous Freezing of Wet, Loose Rocks (Novaia Tekhnologiaa Bureniia Skvazhin V Merzlykh Porodakh),

Abstract

The essence of the method of drilling with simultaneous freezing of the rock ahead of the drill is that because of the circulation in the well of a low-temperature, washing refrigerating agent during the drilling process, the moisture contained in the rock freezes and strong ice-and rock crusts form in the walls of the well, the core, and the moving bottom (or face). This chapter discusses solutions to the problem of drilling in this situation. (Author)
