Testing of M84A1 Time Fuze without C Pellets

Abstract

This report represents the result of a series of tests performed on the M84A1 fuze used on 81 mm illuminating cartridges. The fuzes were modified by removal of the type C pellet from the graduated time train rings and by substituting cored B pellets. Static testing at both 20- and 30-second settings yielded no failures due to non-transfer of ignition from the upper to the graduated time train rings in 1200 fuzes tested. The feasibility of eliminating the C pellet was verified. (Author)
