Use of the Experimental Pourbaix Diagram for D6AC Steel to Interpret Its Corrosion Behavior in Aqueous Media.

Abstract

An experimental potential vs. pH diagram for D6AC high strength steel in 0.1 molar NaCl aqueous solutions was established based on cyclic potentiodynamic polarization, potentiostatic titration, and atomic adsorption analyses. This diagram is useful in assessing the tendency for general corrosion, crevice corrosion, pitting corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. An artificial occluded cell was devised for crevice studies and the concept of crevice protection potential was verified for D6AC alloy in the aqueous solutions.
