A Three-Dimensional Systems Generated Electromagnetic Pulse Calculation of an Idealized FLTSATCOM Satellite.

Abstract

A three-dimensional system generated electromagnetic pulses (SGEMP) code, MAD3, has been written to calculate replacement currents on structures subjected to X-radiation. Initial results are presented for calculated boom currents on an idealized FLTSATCOM satellite. These results were obtained using a fully dynamic and self-consistent solution of Maxwell's equations at a low fluence level. Modifications are presently being made to the MAD3 code to permit treatment of cases involving space-charge limiting.
