The Role of Army Reserve Forces in Support of U.S. Military Strategy.

Abstract

Throughout United States history the vital role of the militia or reserve military forces to the security of the nation has generally been recognized, however a clear delineation of that role in national defense strategy has usually been somewhat nebulous. In attempting to appraise the role of reserve components to the Army, we will examine the history, development and present composition of the Army Reserve. Based on this appraisal, conclusions can be drawn and recommendations offered as to the readiness posture and capabilities of reserve units, and the manner in which they can best serve the needs of this nation.
