Detection Improvement in Multipath Using Even and Odd Symmetric Antenna Patterns.

Abstract

A new technique for enhancing the detection of targets by radars in a multipath environment is described. The method relies on the fact that when two channels using odd and even symmetry antenna patterns are placed symmetrically between the target and its image, the signal from one channel peaks when the other one nulls. The results are quite good when the target and its image are close to a beamwidth apart. However, deterioration takes place in nearly a linear manner as the target and its image is brought together.
