Present Status of the RRI Slant-Path Absorption Model (SLAM) Computer Program

Abstract

A computer program (SLAM) is described which calculates the attenuation by air of microwave and submillimeter radiaton. Besides the horizontal attenuation, the vertical attenuation from various levels down to the ground and out into space is calculated for a fixed frequency. The line profile and atmospheric model can be selected from among several. Comparison is made with other calculations, and with experiments. Possibilities for improving the program are discussed.
