Nucleophilic Substitution of Cyclic and Polymeric Dichlorophosphazenes with M-Chlorophenoxide.

Abstract

The effects of reaction conditions on the nucleophilic substitution of cyclic and polymeric dichlorophosphazenes with m-chlorophenoxide are investigated. Reaction conditions are established which guarantee complete substitution of the polymer. Also it was found that the substitution reaction is influential in controlling macromolecular structure. Reaction conditions were determined whereby insoluble polydichlorophosphazene could be completely substituted with m-chlorophenoxide. Temperature is an important parameter for the substitution reaction. The physical properties of partially substituted poly(bis(m-chlorophenoxy)phosphazene) are quite different from the fully substituted polymer. The thermal stability of poly(bis(m-chlorophenoxy)phosphazene) is related to its extent of substitution. (Author)
