Protection of the Cardiopulmonary Systems Against the Injurious Effects of Acceleration.

Abstract

Research accomplished during the period centered primarily on the application of recently developed pulmonary parenchymal markers and three-dimensional transaxial reconstruction techniques to the study of the spatial distribution of lung parenchymal strains, regional lung volumes and lung geometry. The development of these marker techniques provide a unique research tool. The data described in this report represent significant new information regarding regional mechanical properties of the lung and clearly indicate the need to study the intrinsic elastic behavior in order to quantitate dynamic changes.
