Optimality of the One Step Lock-Ahead Stopping Times.

Abstract

Optimal stopping rules play an important rule in probability and statistics. A comprehensive treatment of the subject is given in the book Great Expectations: The Theory of Optimal Stopping, by Chow, Robbins, and Seigmund. The one step look-ahead stopping is discussed in pp. 52-57 of the book. This paper shows that such rules are optimal under conditions different from those given by Chow, Robbins and Seigmund.
