A Practical Method of Long Range Ice Forecasting for the North Coast of Alaska. Part I.

Abstract

The report describes observed relationships between April mean pressure patterns in Siberia and the Alaskan Arctic and summer ice conditions in the shipping lanes along the North Coast of Alaska. A long range ice forecasting method, based on these relationships, is introduced in its' preliminary state. Also presented is a graphical display of the cyclical nature of ice conditions along the Alaskan North Coast between 1953 and 1975. (Author)
