An Assessment of the Martin-Marietta High Angle of Attack Aerodynamic Methodology for Body Tail Missiles.

Abstract

An assessment of the validity and range of applicability of the high angle of attack methodology developed by the Martin-Marietta Corporation, Orlando Division, under contract to the Army Missile Command has been carried out. The comparisons with experimental data showed inconsistent results with most of the prediction falling within an average accuracy band of approximately 7.5 percent with a few cases as high as 25 percent. Causes for the deviations as well as areas that warrent further improvements are specified. The methodology is suitable in its current form for preliminary design tradeoff studies. (Author)
