Study of the US Army Arctic and Tropic Test Centers.

Abstract

This report contains the results of a study of the Army's Arctic and Tropic Test Centers located in Alaska and the Panama Canal Zone. The report covers the need for the test centers, the utilization of the test centers, recommendations that would improve the utilization of the test centers, and a number of follow-on projects that would be useful. Specific conclusions and recommendations are included that reflect not only upon testing in the extreme and natural environment, but also upon the need for testing general purpose material that is expected to perform in severe environments found in the temperate (intermediate) climates of the world.
