Variation of Streptococcal Adherence to Tooth Enamel.
Abstract
Enamel cylinders prepared from a pool of extracted teeth, were placed in Howley appliances. The appliance was then worn for 2 days by the 2 subjects to study 'in vivo' plaque development. Results have shown that percentages of streptococcal species in the early plaque differed in the two subjects. It is suggested that these differences are due to the inherent variability of the enamel derived from various sources. The advantage of methodology used in this study over other methods is discussed.
