Vulnerability of Airborne Cryogenic Fuel Tanks.

Abstract

This report examines certain aspects of cryogenic fuel tankage specifically liquid hydrogen (LH2) use in aircraft. These aspects include background properties, production methods and cost of LH2; tankage configuration and associated problems and description of candidate tank wall specimens fabricated for AFFDL/PTS in-house test program. It is concluded that liquid hydrogen presents new potential hazards that require further study to determine their vulnerability.
