Welded Rotor Inspection Development Project T55-J-027.

Abstract

The results of this project show that the pulse-echo techniques used in ultrasonic testing offers the best resolution and flow detectability on a welded rotor shaft. Based on these results, detailed procedures have been established defining acceptance criteria and equipment used. This project also showed that these techniques can be used for field inspection. The feasibility of using acoustic emission inspection techniques as an inspection tool for the welded rotor using a low cycle fatigue load for stress inducement was demonstrated. (Author)
