An Examination of US Army Fish and Wildlife Management.

Abstract

In recognition of ever increasing public pressure to hunt and fish on Army Installations, it was determined that a study of Army fish and wildlife management practices would be timely. Specific study objectives were to examine current Army management concepts, policies, and practices in the preservation and propagation of fish and wildlife on Army Installations. Through research of applicable publications and detailed survey of five different installations, the study sought to identify program strengths and weaknesses, assess program potential, and recommend change if deemed appropriate. Conclusions were that the Army fish and wildlife program is poorly managed and requires major overhaul if it is to meet the demands of the future. Potential for Army embarrassment and possible legal sanctions exist. Recommendations include further study, appointment of program manager, and immediate remedial measures to correct current resource reporting and financial accounting procedures. (Author)
