ADP Support for the Army Project Management Office.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to address ways for an Army Project Management Office (PMO) to obtain Automatic Data Processing (ADP) support in order to supply and analyze project data. The author provides a review of the history of present regulations, a description of the current rules to be followed in obtaining ADP support, an overview of the commercial ADP environment with respect to fourth generation computers and guidelines for PMO justification for ADP support. He concludes that DOD should take advantage of fourth generation computers to decentralize its ADP control in the weapons systems acquisition management field in order to enhance innovative ADP applications. Recommendations are offered to review and change pertinent Army regulations in order to streamline the ADP procurement process and to include PMO's in the Modern Army Research and Development Information System (MARDIS).
