Numerical Solution for Three Dimensional Rotational Flow in Cascades.

Abstract

A theoretical analysis is established to deal with the inviscid three dimensional rotational flow which results from the secondary vorticity in turning channels. The equations of motion are written and manipulated in a special form to include the secondary vorticity as a variable among the other flow variables. The equations in their forms are not attractable to analytic solutions and therefore numerical solutions are adopted. The solution to the problem in general yields to the full picture of the three dimensional flow together with the different characteristics of the secondary vorticity distribution in the flow field. Since there was no limitation on the flow deflection angle, the channel radius of curvature or the flow inlet shear, the analysis is then recommended to be used to obtain the rotational flow in the channels of highly loaded turbomachinery cascades.
