Explosive Forming of Tubular Forms with Complex ID's.

Abstract

This report describes the Naval Ordnance Station, Louisville effort in conducting a study to determine the feasibility of making tubular parts with internal configurations by explosively forming preforms over a mandrel. Information regarding optimizing mandrel material and heat treatment, mandrel lubrication, tooling configuration considerations, and preform design is presented herein. At the time of this report, problems with the dimensional stability of the forming mandrel have not been solved. However, results of a study on a shock treating the mandrel have indicated a possible solution to the problem. (Author)
