Additional Research on an Automatic Air Valving Surface Effects Device (AAVSED).

Abstract

Theoretical analysis of the AAVSED concept for air cushion vehicles was conducted. The results are presented in the form of parametric design curves, by which the characteristics of devices suitable for specific operational requirements could be determined. Laboratory tests of scale model devices were conducted to validate the analysis and/or to determine empirical adjustments to the design curves. Additional research is recommended, specifically to investigate the flow through the valve system and to define the pressure loss characteristics.
