On Computing the Positive Part and a Direction of Negative Curvature for a Symmetric Matrix Given in Dyadic Form,

Abstract

The positive part of a symmetric indefinite matrix is that associated with its positive eigenvalues. An iterative procedure is presented for computing an approximation to this and also for computing a direction of negative curvature when the matrix is given as the sum of dyads.
