Interpersonal, Work Group, and Organizational Communication: A Systemic Approach to Understanding Organizations.

Abstract

This final report of a research program supported by the Office of Naval Research discusses the various aspects of the research program and indicates where it stands to date. The report also indicates future research suggested by some of our findings, and mentions points of departure we are taking form this initial set of empirical investigations. Some possibilities for application of our results are mentioned. The report summarizes information from previous technical reports in an attempt to tie together the entire research program. Some data not reported elsewhere are presented as well. The overall intent of the research program was to assess organizations as social-psychological systems, using the general concept of communication as a unifying variable across individuals, their work groups, and the organizations in which these groups function.
