Estimated Hydrodynamic Coefficients for a High Performance Vehicle.

Abstract

Hydrodynamic coefficients capable of predicting the hydrodynamic forces and moments developed at high turning (yaw) rates were estimated using static coefficients obtained from test data and correlated to fit a hydrodynamic model incorporating potential flow coefficients, cross flow drag, and lift on the afterbody due to the presence of a wake. The local variation of the normal velocity component on a turning vehicle was then used to obtain dynamic coefficients. (Author)
