Long-Life X-Ray Tubes for Portable Sources.

Abstract

Work performed toward the development of a long-life x-ray tube for the portable AN/TAQ-2 x-ray system is described in this final report. The investigation resulted in two tube designs, both of which produced substantial life improvement. The principal factor in the life increase was improvement in the tube anode. One design for standard x-ray output showed a life increase by a factor of three. A second design which accepts a 20 percent reduction in x-ray output shows a 5 to 6 times increase in the original life. Recommendations for further development are given. (Author)
