The Landau Problem for the Differential Operator D(super 2)-alpha(super 2) in a Circular Ring.

Abstract

The present note is a continuation of a previous paper and uncovers an extremum property of the bounded exponential Euler splines for the differential operator L equal D(D sup 2) - (alpha sup 2. As such, these are special examples of Micchelli's cardinal L-splines. These connections are only mentioned to indicate how matters are related to spline theory, because here one proceeds directly, assuming no previous knowledge of it.
