Idealized Siren Flow.
Abstract
An analytical model of the flow field in the vicinity of a siren is needed to support research in the effects of intense noise. The possibility that the field can be a periodic sequence of spherically self-symmetric source flows separated by shocks is shown to be untenable. The conditions for bounded mass, momentum, and energy in each puff of gas and the shock jump conditions cannot all be satisfied simultaneously at the origin. (Author)
