General Programming on a Parallel Processor.

Abstract

This report discusses techniques for creating general programs for the Goodyear Aerospace Corporation STARAN parallel processor. To make efficient use of STARAN, problems should be handled by individual programs. However, general programs are often desired to allow manipulation of input parameters. Two general area correlation routines are used as examples in this report. These routines use variable shifting, variable length masks, and variable input parameters to control the computing algorithm. General programming on the STARAN is more difficult, uses more memory space, executes slower, and does not use array space as efficiently as a specialized program. However, some generalization is desired, and the techniques in this report should help a programmer create a general program. (Author)
