Digital Transmission Evaluation Project. Phase I.
Abstract
The Final Evaluation Report summarizes the information derived from Phase I of the Digital Transmission Evaluation Project over the period of October 1973 to July 1976. The project purpose is to test and evaluate commercially developed equipment in the field of wideband digital communications. Tested items are discussed, their individual reports identified, and their impact on Phase II are presented. Test categories used in this evaluation were bit error rate vs. received signal level, carrier-to-interference, power spectra, active link, and special additional tests. Summary of results are presented for the Motorola AN/FRC-80(V)3 Radio System, Raytheon RDS-80 Radio System, Raytheon RDS-80G Radio System, VICOM 4000 Series Digital Multiplexer, Collins MW-518 QPSK Radio, Collins AN/FRC 162 Radio, and Avantek DR8A Radio System. Test techniques are discussed in detail. These techniques are bit error rate vs. received signal level, carrier-to-interference, power spectrum, and bit error rate statistics. Conclusions recommend items suitable for implementation in the DCS and identifies items which require further study. (Author)
