Transient Temperatures Produced in Solid Cylinders by a Nuclear Thermal Pulse

Abstract

The analytical expression for the transient temperature field in an isotropic, homogeneous, finite length, solid cylinder whose lateral surface is subjected to heating by a nuclear thermal radiation environment is derived. This expression provides a convenient means for the nondimensional representation and parametric analysis of the temperature field in the cylinder. In addition, this temperature equation can be used in analytical analysis of those effects dependent on temperature or temperature change e.g., thermal stresses in cylinders.
