A Feasibility Experiment for a Soft X-Ray Laser

Abstract

X-ray lasing in the region of 44 to 117 A is possible using a mode-locked, picosecond Nd: glass laser as a pump. This report discusses the necessary conditions along with expected gain and loss mechanisms. Also detailed is a history of Air Force Weapons Laboratory involvement in this effort.
