Environmental Characteristics and Experimental Limitations of Arc-Heated Reentry Test Facilities.

Abstract

A critical examination of the nature of the flows in arc-heated jet facilities, and the several uses that these facilities are put to is presented. Conclusions as to the applicability and validity of these tests for various re-entry problems are drawn and recommendations are presented for improved calibrations of existing facilities and/or new features required for next generation facilities.
