An Investigation of the Drag of Tandem Strut Configurations Applicable to Small Waterplane Area Ships,

Abstract

Towing tank experiments were conducted with model struts which are typical of those being considered for use on Small-Waterplane-Area Twin-Hull (SWATH) craft. The system consisted of two identical struts arranged in tandem and an endplate which simulated the upper surface of the SWATH's submerged hulls. The struts were operated with and without the endplate, and drag was measured for various conditions of submergence, strut spacing and speed.
