Studies of Speech Analysis and Synthesis.

Abstract

Much of the research that has been carried out under this contract has been concerned with the specification of attributes of the speech signal that characterize the speech of particular individuals as opposed to attributes that describe the linguistic content of the speech. A related project has been to devise procedures for synthesis of different voices in order to gain further insight into the attributes that distinguish one speaker from another. An objective of some of the more recent work on the contract has been to determine and to interpret the acoustic characteristics of particular consonant and vowels sounds in various phonetic environments, with application both to the speaker-identification problem and to the speech recognition problem. The report includes a listing of reports and papers issued under the contract.
