F-18 Interior Lighting Analysis: Red versus White

Abstract

This report presents a brief summary of the literature relevant to the selection of cockpit lighting coloration for the F-18 (and similar) aircraft. The generally accepted preference for red lighting is questioned with the ultimate choice of color found to rest upon a mission requirement for maximum sensitivity for light detection.
