Defence Scientific Information - The User-Provider Interface.

Abstract

This paper discusses the role and functions of the Information Scientist, a prime provider of scientific and technical information (STI), in the Department of National Defence. The functions described are: (a) The interface between the Information Scientist and the user; (b) the handling of incoming documents; (c) retrospective searching; (d) current awareness or SDI services; (e) the validation of requests for documents; and (f) the distribution of documents. Procedures and channels for ordering documents from DSIS are also given.
