A Proposed Hierarchical Structure of Functional Spaces for Buildings.

Abstract

This report proposes a hierarchical structure within which to organize Corps of Engineers facility design criteria for quick and easy reference and retrieval. The logic of the structure is presented and related to existing programming, design, and review practices. Descriptors for each five building types are proposed (Administrative Office Facilities, Bachelor Housing, Classroom Training Facilities, Research and Development Laboratories and Shop Maintenance Facilities). A display of the integrated structure and descriptors is introduced with an explanation of its use. Recommendations for future work, including the structure, contents, and eventual computerization are presented in the conclusion. (Author)
